Why do we organize "The conference of hope"?
The Flemish Psoriasis Association organises this big event in order to make clear that psoriasis affects more than just the patients’ skin. External skin damage can lead to emotional difficulties and stress. Several studies proved even that there is a link between psoriasis and a higher risk of heart and vascular diseases. Other scientists pretend that there is a certain connection between psoriasis and obesitas or diabetes. People who suffer from psoriasis indeed tend to suffer from a high level of cholesterol. In addition, it is clear that the style of life (f.i. smoking and use of alcohol) can have a negative effect on the condition of the patient. Studies have shown that 20 to 25% of all psoriasis patients also suffer from arthritis.
Our conclusion is clear: psoriasis affects much more than just your skin!
Why do we call our conference "The conference of hope"?
Psoriasis is an incurable condition that can be controlled by a whole range of medicines or treatments. Lots of patients find their own ways to make life with psoriasis more comfortable. How can they deal with their psoriasis? This is the key question of this conference. The conference of Hope wants to offer practical information to patients with respect to their skin disease. We welcome the psoriasis patients and also their partners and family, doctors, nurses, therapists, students …
The conference of hope will offer lectures about comorbidity, psoriasis arthritis and combining therapies for psoriasis. The afternoon session consists of 6 practical workshops for all those present: yoga and sports, mindfulness, psoriasis arthritis and physiotherapy, psoriasis and heredity, skin care and cures and balneotherapy.  
By organizing our conference, the Flemish Psoriasis Association hopes to inform about psoriasis and wants to pass on hopeful messages and, on top of that, practical solutions! Isn’t that something we are all looking for?
